Safety
Downed Power Lines
Always assume that a downed power line is charged
(hot) and stay away from the line. If a power line falls on your vehicle
while you are in the vehicle, stay in the vehicle unless it is life
threatening. The tires on the vehicle will prevent the current from
getting to the ground. If you must get out of the vehicle, jump clear
of the vehicle, DO NOT touch the ground and the vehicle at the same
time, as this will allow electricity to reach the ground and could cause
serious injury or death.
Linemen
Training
Our linemen go through a four year apprentice program
and attend monthly training meetings provided by the cooperative and
its associates.
Safety
Demonstrations
Fred Bauman, Director of Member Services, provides
safety demonstrations to local 4th graders each Spring. The demo includes
many outdoor safety rules and concludes with a demonstration of the
power of electricity by cooking a hot dog. The kids always enjoy the
demontration and retain a lot of valuable safety information.
Mr. Bauman also conducts safety demos for other organizations
in the community. If you wish to have him conduct a demo for your organization,
please contact him via Internet form Mail Here
or at our office
We also conduct a high voltage demontration every
year at the Fulton County 4-H fair. Our linemen perform several functions
at the demo that they do out in the field.
